When relationships are strained, all the stuff that doesn’t work takes up all your mental “bandwidth”. Problems appear bigger and bigger. Our minds go searching for more evidence to prove all our negative stories about ourselves (e.g “I’m unlovable”), about our relationship (e.g. “We never make time for each other”), or the current situation (e.g. “The world is going down!”). But there’s a way we can use our mind mechanism to our advantage, to support and strengthen our relationships and ourselves.
